Abstract: The world is made up of things. Want to learn to control the world? This is a hands-on class that will teach you how to configure a Raspberry Pi device and connect it to a cloud platform like Microsoft Azure to do sensor data analysis along with video and image recognition. Raspberry Pi devices and access to the cloud services are included in the class price and participants can keep the device and the sensors for experimentation at home. We will start the class with configuration and set up of the Raspberry Pi device and learning about the available IoT technologies and protocols. Next, we will configure the sensors and start feeding sensor data into the Microsoft Azure cloud. Once we have a good set of data, we will use the Analytics services in Azure to do some data analysis and predictive modeling. We will also visualize the data using Microsoft’s Power BI. The last part of the class will utilize Microsoft’s Cognitive Services to do image recognition based on video frames captured via the camera connected to the device.
